Congee is the OG of superfoods and one of those unicorn foods that is super well tolerated by most. You almost cannot overdo congee, however in the interest of a balance we would recommend eating Conjo Congee:
- At least once a week for a weekly gut reset.
- Once a day for two weeks to promote a wellness shift or change of seasons.
- As a day of rest: Nothing but Conjo Congee for a whole day for a responsible fast.
Do not attempt longer or more severe fasting unless under the guidance of a qualified and experienced healthcare practitioner. When undergoing a fast please adjust lifestyle accordingly. Fasts are only recommended when the body and mind are able to rest in accordance with the restricted caloric intake. - Daily for post partum, illness recovery, and chronic fatigue. Listen to when your body naturally wants a change. From our clinical experience people happily binge on congee when they’re getting the gut tune up and naturally lessen as the congee achieves its job.
- Regularly incorporate into your dietary repertoire to maintain gut health and overall wellbeing.
Remember, food is medicine. Always listen to your body and balance is key.
Heck yes! As animal lovers we strive to make healthful vegan products to support our plant-based friends.

Conjo Congee is appropriate for children over 2 years of age. Since our current lines do contain botanicals, as a precaution we do not recommend them for baby’s first food.
We are working towards a line suitable for baby’s first food.
Yes! In our professional opinion there is nothing better for an aged digestive system than congee. However as always, everything in moderation.
Absolutely. Like we’ve mentioned, congee is well tolerated and has been historically used as a food for convalescing in ancient times because of its ability to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach (Chinese medicine digestive organs) and promote immunity.
In Eastern medicine philosophy congee is the only food you can eat that strengthens the digestion while you are eating it. Everything else we eat is taxing to digestive Qi.
Our congee doesn’t include any gluten or dairy containing ingredients, however it is manufactured on a line that processes allergens like gluten and dairy.
We only work with premium manufacturers that maintain high food safety standards and cross contamination is unlikely. That said we cannot guarantee trace amounts present.
Don’t worry we haven’t forgot our Coeliac friends. Despite it being an expensive and complicated process, we are working towards gluten free certification.
White rice is generally well tolerated and considered low FODMAP. From a Chinese medicine perspective the properties of congee help to improve gut-integrity making it a superior meal to regular rice.
Please take the time to read the ingredients listed for each congee so that you can ensure they suit your exact dietary requirements. As each individual can tolerate different amounts of certain foods, it is best to go through each congee to see what fits best with your current state of health.
Our lightly seasoned congees do contain gluten free soy sauce which is considered high FODMAP. This is in small proportions and combined with the properties of congee (from a Chinese medicine perspective) may make it better tolerated.
As with any dietary change, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian who can provide personalised guidance based on your specific needs and sensitivities. They can help you navigate the complexities of the low FODMAP diet and ensure that your diet remains balanced and nutritious while managing symptoms.
Absolutely not. We pride ourselves on being naturally awesome and utilising ingredients that are GMO free.
Yes! The herbs we use to infuse in our current line of congees are pregnancy safe*. The herbs used in our congees appear on the FSANZ database and are at dietary levels.
Traditionally congee is well tolerated and historically promoted in times like pregnancy. However like always, listening to your body and moderation is key.
We heavily invest in safe manufacturing practices and food testing for your ensured safety.

It certainly is, and congee is something we would recommend in clinic to help improve breastmilk and baby’s immunity via the breast milk.
If you are experiencing mastitis or other acute symptoms it would be best to consult your health care provider for prompt tailored care.
We only use Australian rice that is certified organic or biodynamic (depending on supply) and work with reputable suppliers.
We prefer to use biodynamic for its holistic approach, which extends beyond organic practices. Biodynamics emphasises biodiversity and ecological balance, treating the farmland as a self-sustaining organism. Another term gaining traction is regenerative farming, which shares many principles with biodynamics but without its more esoteric philosophies.
We have a long standing relationship with a reputable supplier and only use premium export quality botanicals from Hong Kong. These botanicals boast a centuries-long history of cultivation for medicinal purposes, making them ideal for our congees.
As part of best practice we test our ingredients per batch and require Quality Assurance documentation from our suppliers.
Arsenic is a chemical element found in water, air, food and soil as a naturally occurring substance or due to contamination from human activity.
Both organic and inorganic forms of arsenic appear naturally in soil and ground water and as such, their presence in a variety of foods is unavoidable. Rice has copped a bad rap despite it being one of many foods containing extremely low and safe levels.
We have done our research and testing and only use reputable local suppliers, we are satisfied with the quality of the rice we use.
In addition, we go to extra lengths to produce a premium congee. Ours is manufactured following a Swiss research lab rice cooking protocol that reduces the levels of naturally occurring levels in the final product and as such likely contains lower levels than the rice you cook at home.
Each line will vary, however predominantly we use Australian pink salt and a premium gluten free fermented soy sauce for our savoury lines.
We are working towards plain and lightly sweetened versions.
Once rehydrated, Conjo Congee should be enjoyed immediately.
Conjo Congee has a two year best before. Being freeze dried, technically it can last many years but we can’t officially say that due to labelling constraints and time trials are still underway.
Store your unopened packets of Conjo in a dark cool place like a pantry to ensure shelf life.
Yes you can! Our packaging is soft plastic recyclable.
However, watch this space. We are constantly investigating ways in which we can improve our environmental impact while still being able to deliver convenient gut-friendly meals around the world.
